What: San Antonio's “Can't Stop the Serenity” 2009 event featuring “Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog”
Where: Alamo Drafthouse Westlakes
When: This Sunday - 4 PM & 9 PM
"Can’t Stop the Serenity" is a global fundraising effort featuring charity screenings of Joss Whedon’s 2005 film Serenity to benefit Equality Now. In the last three years, the Austin Browncoats have raised over $16,000, and in total over $160,000 has been raised for Equality Now around the world. You can read all about the global event at http://www.cantstoptheserenity.com.
This year, in addition to Serenity, we are happy to announce that we will also be hosting the San Antonio-area big screen premiere of “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog,” Joss Whedon's award-winning internet musical sensation.
Fans of Joss Whedon show Serenity on his birthday to honor him and to raise money for his favorite charity, Equality Now. Equality Now (http://equalitynow.org/) works to end violence and discrimination against women and girls around the world through the mobilization of public pressure. In addition to raising money for Equality Now, we will also be donating a portion of the proceeds from the event to The Kids Need to Read Foundation. Kids Need To Read is a children's literacy non-profit organization who will take the money we raise and put it back into San Antonio's underprivileged schools, libraries and shelters.
Tickets for this event will be $15 in advance and $18 at the door and are now available online. For tickets and other information, visit http://www.cantstoptheserenity.com/sanan
Hope to see you there.
It's kind of a fancomic I was thinking about doing that'll be a couple of pages.
But I ended up doodling it out in individual illustrations. oops. I may put it together and make a real full 2-page comic out of it once I'm done. There's a little bit more after this that I want to add that has a little more gay than this. But anyway this is what I have of the sketchy ideas.
& I have an additional doodle with that.
( To the doodles )
I HOPE YOU LIKE.
Oooh my goodness. Boostle turns me into a giggle little girl.

Elliot will be speaking about the film after it's over, I've heard him speak and he's a very funny and intelligent guy (who happens to write for The Daily Show, and does stand-up in the NYC area). Apparently the venue has a bar (that may or not be open. I've never been there, myself). I'm hoping to go but my schedule's a mess, so I dunno. But, please, check out a cool movie and listen to a funny guy talk old films afterward, on a larger than usual screen. Elliot previously showed The Thin Man, and if there's a good response to these screenings, there may be more scheduled in the future.

chiefly for his collaborations—with Frank Miller on seminal Batman
and Daredevil stories, and with Paul Karasik on an adaptation of Paul
Auster's novel, City of Glass—he began publishing his own stories in
1991 in his anthology magazine, Rubber Blanket. Since then his short
comics have been published in books and magazines around the world.
Asterios Polyp is his first graphic novel.

Yes, that is Old Gregg up there.
Some little ink/gouache drawings for SDCC. Much more of these coming!
Matchup #40. You know what to do.
I feel like I’ve moved into a new level of writing.
There’s nothing concrete to put forth to present this. But I find that, when I look at stuff I wrote even six months ago, I can see so many places where my writing is weak. I can step back from it, and – even better – I can see how to fix it.
Undoubtably I’ll be saying the same thing in another six months about what I’m writing now.
This is a good thing. There’s no point in writing and learning unless you can progress.
How has this come about? Lots of different things. Reading a lot – reading critically, especially of books that are popular (and often not considered “good”) is a really important way to learn. It’s not all about dry technique – we can all point to a book that shows very little actual writing talent, but is loved by the public all the same. I’ve also been listening to a lot of writing podcasts – namely I Should Be Writing, The Secrets and Writing Excuses.
Finding an awesome group of beta readers who are willing to deconstruct my writing word by word is probably worth more than all of these things combined. I cannot express how valuable all of my betas are. Anyone who’s writing in a vacuum – find yourself some first readers. You won’t regret it.
I learn almost as much betaing for other people, too. I read or heard recently that we’ll often look for the things in others’ work that we’re actively working on ourselves, which is a really interesting way of looking at it for me.
It’s challenging myself, forcing myself to keep on learning and developing. And it keeps on going.
